BERKELEY – For the first time ever, the University of California Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will join #GivingTuesday, a two-pronged movement based on philanthropic donations and giving back to the community. Set for Tuesday, Dec. 3, Cal’s student-athletes will spend the day volunteering in the Bay Area, while Cal Athletics' supporters are encouraged to #GiveToCal by making a charitable donation to assist student-athlete pursuits on and off the field.
Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season with days such as “Black Friday,” “Small Business Saturday” and “Cyber Monday,” #GivingTuesday serves as a celebratory, fully connected day to kick off the giving season, when many make their holiday and end-of-year charitable gifts. Gifts made to Cal’s athletic department or any of Cal’s athletic programs will help provide scholarships, equipment, facilities and more and ensure Cal’s status as a perennial Top 25 athletic program.
Cal’s student-athletes will spend part of their #GivingTuesday by visiting the Oakland Boys and Girls Club and participating in other activities that inspire giving and personal philanthropy.
As an added incentive to donate on #GivingTuesday, donors who #GiveToCal via CalBears.com/GivingTuesday online will receive double priority points to be applied to seating selection options for Cal sporting events. For every $100 contributed on Dec. 3 only, donors will receive two priority points, compared to the standard one point per $100 contribution.
