BERKELEY - California senior Jeremy Bagshaw, who owns the nation’s top time in the 1000 free (9:02.45) this season, was recently interviewed by SwimmingWorld on their Morning Show discussing his impressive start to the 2013-14 season
Bagshaw, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, has been absolutely stellar during the fall season, capturing five individual races during the Golden Bears’ dual meet victories over Pacific, Indiana and Wisconsin. Additionally, he was the distance freestyler winner in Cal’s triple-distance meet versus Stanford, clocking a combined time of 15:17.14, in the 200 free, 500 free and 1000 free.
The Bears’ swimmers will next compete at the 2013 AT&T Winter Nationals, Dec. 5-7, in Knoxville, Tenn. Cal’s next dual meet competition is Friday, Jan. 24 versus Arizona State and Saturday, Jan. 25 versus Arizona at Spieker Aquatics Complex (times TBA).
The Bears will vie for an NCAA crown in 2014, after winning the national crown in 2011 and 2012. Leading Cal will be two individual champions from 2012 – senior Marcin Tarczynski (200 individual medley) and junior Will Hamilton (200 butterfly) – plus four members (senior Shayne Fleming, juniors Seth Stubblefield and Fabio Gimondi, and sophomore Tyler Messerschmidt) of title-winning relays. Additionally, Cal features standout sophomores Josh Prenot (2013 Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year) and Jacob Pebley (third in the NCAAs in the 200 backstroke), plus star recruit Ryan Murphy, one of the nation’s top young backstrokers who was third in the 200 back at this summer’s U.S. national championships.
