BERKELEY – Attacker Kacey Avalos, a member of the U.S. Youth National Team, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join Cal’s women’s water polo program, coach Richard Corso announced.
Avalos, a right-handed attacker, was named a NISCA/Speedo All-American following her junior season at Santa Margarita High School. Avalos led the Eagles to the CIF Division II championship in 2013.
Avalos is an All-CIF First Team and All-Trinity League First Team pick. She competed with the USA Cadet National Team at the Junior Pan-American Games in Puerto Rico in 2011 and was a member of the Cadet team in 2012 as well. Avalos was on the U.S. Youth National Team this year.
“Kacey has a strong set of water polo skills both at the defensive and offensive end of the pool,” Corso said. “Her attitude and water polo IQ will help our team immediately. She is an excellent student-athlete and will flourish in our world class environment here at Cal.”
Avalos plays for the SOCAL water polo club and was named a Junior Olympic All-American in 2012.
Avalos will enroll at Cal next fall and begin competing for the Bears in the 2015 season.
