Tonight’s loss was Cal’s first loss on the road this season
The Bears have been held scoreless just three times all season.
CORVALLIS, Ore. –Facing five road matches to close out the season, No. 12/20 California fell 1-0 to the hosting Oregon State Beavers Friday evening in Corvallis, Ore. It was just the third time the Bears have been held scoreless all season, and only Cal's second loss of the season and first loss on the road. The Golden Bears dropped to 9-2-5 overall and 2-2-3 in conference play.
The Beavers found nearly twice as many scoring opportunities as the Bears with a 19-10 shot edge, and while Cal had six shots within the frame – all from different Bears -- compared to Oregon State’s five, a free kick in the second half for the Beavers doomed the Bears.
In a night that saw 21 fouls between both teams, Oregon State’s Jacy Drobney capitalized on a free kick at the 55th-minute mark just outside of the 18 and drilled it low to the post for the gamewinner.
The Bears fought back with high intensity for the final 35 minutes, managing four strong shots toward the net, but could not shake off the goalwork of Beaver keeper Sammy Prudhomme. Prudhomme ended the night tallying all six saves, while Cal counterpart Emily Kruger had four. California also had an edge in corner kicks, 8-5, and eight fouls while Oregon State committed 13.
