BERKELEY - California Men's Crew returned from a successful race at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. this past weekend. International and University crews from around the world braved the windy conditions in the area in a weekend of exciting racing.
The Golden Bears produced an encouraging result for early in the Fall racing season, finishing in 14:55.47 as the fourth collegiate crew and eighth overall.
"The guys had a solid race" said California head men’s crew coach, Mike Teti. "We wanted to come here and test ourselves against some of the best rowers in the world and I think the crew responded well. Within the collegiate results, I think it shows that there are a handful of fast crews all close to each other in speed - we'll see who is able to make gains over the months of winter training."
The athletes that traveled to Boston were Colby Rapson (cox), Aaron Wright (stroke), Ivan Ostojic (7), Jordan Vanderstoep (6), Louis Snelson (5), Jovan Jovanovic (4), Christian Reynolds (3), James Edwards (2), and Cole Reiser (bow).
Cal alumni and 2010 National Champions, Olivier Siegelaar (Dutch), Zach Vlahos (USA), and Nareg Guregian (USA) all raced for their respective national teams with the Dutch winning by just 1.5 seconds over the second-place Americans.
