LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Former Cal men’s golfer Max Homa shot up the final leader board 17 positions into a tie for 30th place at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open that wrapped up Sunday at the par-71, 7,223-yard TPC Summerlin.
After being two-over par through eight holes, Homa (69-70-68-67 – 274, -10) rallied with consecutive eagles on the par-five ninth and par-four 10th, holing out from 152 yards on the latter. He would add birdies on the par-five 13th and 16th holes to play his final 10 holes in six-under.
Homa, who tied for ninth in his professional debut at the PGA TOUR’s season-opening Frys.com Open that concluded last Sunday to earn a spot in the Shriners event, has begun his professional career with eight consecutive rounds of 70 or under.
Webb Simpson (64-63-67-66 – 260, -24) won the Shriners Hospitals for Childrens Open by six strokes.
Homa will begin the first stage of qualifying school Monday at Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst in North Carolina.
