Cal’s lineup for the 2013 Isleworth Collegiate Invitational along with current Golfweek national rankings is listed below.

No. Name (Golfweek Ranking)
1. Joël Stalter (233)
2. Pace Johnson (62)
3. Brandon Hagy (3)
4. Michael Weaver (20)
5. Michael Kim (85)

The 15-team field includes 14 squads ranked among the nation’s top 50 according to Golfstat with 13 of those teams in the top 35 and six that were NCAA quarterfinalists in 2012-13 including champion Alabama and runner-up Illinois. Alabama is currently the top-ranked team in both the field and the nation. Other current top-25 squads in the field according to Golfweek include No. 4 California, No. 6 Illinois, No. 11 New Mexico, No. 15 Texas (No. 17 Golfweek), No. 16 UCF, No. 18 Arkansas (No. 25 Golfweek) and No. 23 Vanderbilt (No. 20 Golfweek).

Cal is the defending Isleworth Collegiate Invitational champion while Michael Kim was the individual medalist at the event in 2012.  Cal wrapped up its first unbeaten fall season ever by winning the 2012 Isleworth Collegiate Invitational and Kim won his first collegiate individual title on his way to unanimous 2012-13 Collegiate Player of the Year honors. Cal (284-295-289 – 868, +4) was two strokes better than second-place New Mexico (293-291-286 – 870, +6), while Kim (67-72-73 – 212, -4) was a shot better than New Mexico’s James Erkenbeck (72-70-71 – 213, -3).

Cal has been on an amazing run going back to the beginning of the 2011-12 campaign. Cal has been victorious in 21 of its last 32 stroke-play events since the beginning of 2011-12 and has finished in the top five in all 32.

The 2012-13 Cal men’s golf team arguably registered the best season in the history of college golf with 12 in 14 stroke-play events to set a modern-era NCAA single-season win record previously established by Oklahoma State in 1985-86. Cal ended the season as the nation’s top-ranked team by both Golfstat and Golfweek despite being defeated by Illinois in the match-play semifinals of the NCAA Championship. Cal won outright on 11 occasions (Gopher Invitational, Pac-12 Preview, Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Fresno State Lexus Classic, Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, Western Intercollegiate, Pac-12 Championship, NCAA Pullman Regional, NCAA Championship Stroke Play) while sharing the team title with host Georgia Tech at the PING/Golfweek Preview. Not only did Cal won 12 of its first 13 tournaments in 2012-13 but when the team’s record against all of the opponents in its fields is individually added up, the Bears are an astounding 206-3-1 (202-3-1 vs. Division I opponents). The three losses came to New Mexico and TCU when the Bears finished third behind those schools at the Arizona Intercollegiate and to UNLV when the Bears were second one shot behind the Runnin’ Rebels at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. The one tie happened when Cal shared the PING/Golfweek Preview title with host Georgia Tech. In their 12 stroke-play tournament wins, the Bears compiled a total margin of victory of 168 strokes for a 14.00 stroke average per win, including a season-high 37-shot win over host Fresno State at the Fresno State Lexus Classic. During the two stroke-play tournaments Cal did not won, the Bears have finished a combined four shots off pace of the leaders.

Cal had a season of firsts in 2011-12 when the Bears made their first trip to match play at the NCAA Championship and recorded their first NCAA match-play victory in the quarterfinals over San Diego State. Cal tied for third at the NCAA’s in 2012 for its second-highest finish ever at the event (later equaled in 2012-13) after the team's lone national title in 2004. Cal also captured its first NCAA Regional and Pac-12 titles that it defended in 2013, posted a then school-record six wins (doubled the previous mark) that was surpassed in 2012-13, and had top-five finishes in all 14 events for the first time in school history.
