BERKELEY – Senior running back Mitchel Bartolo and freshman linebacker Hardy Nickerson have been named the Jonathan & Judy Hoff Football’s Scholar-Athletes of the Week head coach Sonny Dykes announced Thursday.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized as scholar-athlete of the week,” Bartolo said. “I’ve always taken it upon myself to embrace the opportunities that this prestigious university offers and I know a lot of guys feel the same way. Our faculty and football staff is truly top notch, and I’m fortunate to be a part of it all.”
“I am honored to receive the student-athlete of the week award,” Nickerson said. “I would like to thank all of the tutors and academic learning specialists for all of the resources that they give us to be able to succeed in the classroom.”
Each week two Cal football players earn the honor that recognizes student-athletes for an academic skill that has developed through practice, a study habit that has formed into an effective routine, a positive measured outcome that has been achieved through a course assignment or exam, and/or a leadership trait that has been portrayed through academics.
