Also in the round of 16, Cal freshman Filip Bergevi fell to Santa Clara’s Ilya Osintsev, 6-1 6-0. Tenreiro beat Osintsev to earn his spot opposite Johnson in the semi.

In the other part of the bracket, Goransson, a freshman, topped Stanford’s Anthony Tsodikov, 6-3, 6-1, in the round of 16 and then bested USC’s Nick Crystal, 6-3, 7-5. At the UCSB Classic in Santa Barbara, Bears advanced to the finals of both the top-flight singles and doubles brackets. Junior Nikhil Jayashankar will vie for the Flight A singles crown after beating UCLA’s Ryoto Tachi, 6-4, 1-6, 6-0, in the quarterfinals and James Wade of UC Davis, 7-6, 6-3, in the semifinals. He plays Alec Adamson of UC Davis in the Sunday final.

Cal sophomore Wyatt Houghton won his Flight A quarterfinal against UCSB’s Ziad Sultan, 6-2, 6-3, but fell to Adamson, 7-6, 6-2, in the semis. Houghton will play in the third-place game against Wade on Sunday.

In Flight A doubles, Houghton and junior Chase Melton will play in Sunday’s final, after defeating UC San Diego’s Horea Porutiu and Kona Luu, 8-1, semifinals. The Bears will play Adamson/Adam Levie of UC Davis in the title match. The Aggies got past Cal’s team of Jayashankar/junior Jack Sanford in their semi.
