Quoting Coach Onstead
“UC Davis upset Stanford last weekend at home. We trained in Memorial Stadium to help get ready for playing at Aggie Stadium. They believe strongly in themselves on their field. There’s an advantage in that they train on that type of surface every day and we don’t. The tactics you use you have to change.”

“They’ve won close games against some of the top teams. UC Davis is a good team that is progressing. They have good talent and are especially dangerous at home because they train on that surface every day and they have a lot of belief. They beat us last year and got Stanford into overtime and beat them this year. They like playing those home games.”

“I know Yale’s coach well. She and I work on the national U-16 staff. We’re very similar philosophically. We’ll play similar style games, so it will be a good matchup. They’ll be solid.”

“We want to have the flexibility to move Clara Goni (who scored against Duke last week) from the back line to the back of the midfield. She’s very creative on the ball. She has good ball control. She changes direction well. She has a good overall game and is a complete player. She’s been super helpful on the scoring end. You don’t practically look for that from your defender, so it’s a bonus.”

Injuries Take Their Toll
Cal has dealt with injuries throughout the 2013 season, beginning with star strikers Lara Kruggel and Nicole Wallstedt missing the beginning of the season and continuing with Kruggel and starters Clara Goni and Shannon Elmitt both missing games against Pacific two weekends ago. Elmitt missed both games against the Tigers while Elmitt, Kruggel and Goni all missed last Sunday’s 4-2 loss.
Upcoming Events
On October 20, California will celebrate its seniors on Senior Day. The three Golden Bear seniors of Allie Swartz, Shannon Elmitt and Jordan O'Reilly will be honored pre-game against UC Davis. There will also be an Alumni Appreciation Game – alums should RSVP to Shellie Onstead for the free, catered event.
