Johnson Wins in Doubles at Tiburon Challenger

TIBURON, Calif. – California players split their main draw doubles matches on Wednesday in the $100,000 First Republic Bank Tiburon Challenger, with Campbell Johnson’s team winning and the Golden Bear duo of Ben McLachlan and Filip Bergevi losing at the Tiburon Peninsula Club.

Johnson and his partner, former Northwest Missouri State player Malcolm Harrison, beat Alan and Andy Chang for the second consecutive match in Tiburon, 6-2, 6-2, in the opening round of 16. Bergevi/McLachlan fell in the round of 16 to Canadian tandem Philip Bester and Peter Polansky, 6-3, 6-3.

Johnson and Harrison will next face the team of Carsten Ball and Denys Molchanov, on Wednesday in the fourth match on court one.

Many of the other Golden Bears will compete from Friday through Sunday in either the Battle of the Bay in San Francisco or the UCSB Classic in Santa Barbara, Calif.
