Johnson Qualifies in Tiburon Challenger Doubles

TIBURON, Calif. – California senior Campbell Johnson teamed with professional player Malcolm Harrison to win the qualifying doubles entry into the doubles main draw on Monday at the $100,000 First Republic Bank Tiburon Challenger at the Tiburon Peninsula Club. On Cal day, the top-seeded pair defeated the duo of Alan and Andy Chang, 6-2, 7-6(3), in the final qualifying match.

The Cal team of senior Ben McLachlan and freshman Filip Bergevi, which earned wild-card entry into the main draw, will also compete in main draw doubles when play resumes on Wednesday.

Johnson began play in the singles main draw on Monday, but the golden Bear fell against Peter Polansky, a pro player, 6-4, 7-5.

With a shot at the main draw on the line on Monday, Bergevi lost to top-ranked Philip Bester, also a pro player, 7-6(4), 6-2, in qualifying singles.

The Tiburon Challenger concludes on Sunday.
