PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – California sophomore Klara Fabikova ended her runs in qualifying singles as well as – with teammate Zsofi Susanyi – in the qualifying doubles back draw on Wednesday at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Country Club. Additionally, sophomore Lynn Chi fell in the round of 16 in the qualifying singles back draw.
Main draw singles and doubles will begin on Thursday, with Susanyi and Anett Schutting playing in singles and the team of Chi and Schutting playing in doubles.
Fabikova, the fourth-seeded player in the qualifying singles bracket and the nation’s 23rd-ranked player, lost in the qualifying round of 32 to Texas A&M’s 48th-ranked Cristina Stancu, 7-6(4), 1-6, 6-2. Chi, ranked 44th, dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match to Pepperdine’s 68th-ranked Alejandra Granillo in the consolation bracket.
In doubles, Fabikova/Susanyi lost to the Virginia team of Julia Elbaba/Rachel Pierson, 8-5, in a round of 10 in the back draw.
On Thursday, Schutting, a senior ranked fifth in the ITA preseason poll, will play Pepperdine qualifier and 29th-ranked Lorraine Guillermo at 11:45 a.m. in main draw singles. Susanyi, a junior ranked fourth, will take on Florida’s 16th-ranked Sofie Oyen at 1:30 p.m. In main draw doubles, the 11th-ranked duo of Chi and Schutting battle USC’s 19th-ranked Brynn Boren and Zoe Katz at 10 a.m.
