DAVIS – Senior Colin Smith scored nine total goals while sophomores Colin Mulcahy and Thomas Argamonte each scored five as the No. 4 Cal men’s water polo team won a pair of games at the Aggie Shootout on Saturday.
Smith scored two goals in the first period during a 14-4 victory over No. 13 UC Davis. The Bears (8-2) led 4-0 after the first period and rolled to the win. Smith finished with four goals overall against the Aggies.
Cal’s matchup against Redlands was close after the first quarter, but the Bears then pulled away for a 20-8 victory. The Bears led 6-5 heading into the second period, but Smith scored twice in the period and Cal established an 11-6 halftime advantage. The Bears scored six more goals in the third quarter, including two each by Mulcahy and Chandler Jarrels-Stickney, to take command.
Cal goalkeeper Jon Sibley made 16 saves in the win over UC Davis and 20 overall on the day.
The Bears return to the pool next Saturday when they host No. 5 Pacific at Spieker Aquatics Complex. The match will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
