CORVALLIS, Ore. – With wins in 13 of 14 events, the Cal women’s swimming team cruised past Oregon State Friday, 161-95, in the opening dual meet of the season for the Golden Bears.

Cal freshmen picked up five victories on the day, including two each by Missy Franklin and Celina Li. Franklin, who typically concentrates in the 100 and 200 freestyle and backstroke events, claimed the first individual race – the 1000-yard freestyle. She finished in 9:55.97, just over a second outside of Cal’s all-time top 10. Franklin also took the 100-yard butterfly in 57.04.

Li, who was named Queen of the Pool for her performance in a meet at Cal Poly last weekend, prevailed in the 200-yard fly (2:00.55) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.13). Freshman Marina Garcia, a 2013 World Championships finalist in the 100- and 200-meter breast, easily won the 100-yard breast in 1:04.51.

Cal sported one other double winner on the day in sophomore Kelly Naze, who took first in the 200-yard back (2:04.16) and 200-yard individual medley (2:06.28). Oregon State’s individual win came in the 500-yard free when Sammy Harrison touched the wall in 4:55.83.

The Bears won both relays – the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard free relay. In the free relay, the last event of the competition, Franklin swam anchor and clocked a 22.84 split for the final 50 yards – the best split of the afternoon.

After returning home, Cal will host the first of three fall dual meets in Berkeley at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 when Washington State comes to the Spieker Aquatics Complex. Future meets are scheduled against Florida Oct. 19 and Wisconsin Nov. 1.
