Berkeley – California men’s gymnastics associate head coach Brett McClure, a silver medalist for Team USA at the 2004 Olympic Games, was inducted into the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame Wednesday evening at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at Comcast Arena in Everett, Wash.
“I’m honored and humbled to be selected into the Snohomish Hall of Fame,” McClure said. “I have been blessed with amazing opportunities throughout my career which would not have been possible without the support from my hometown, Mill Creek and Snohomish County. This community does such an outstanding job supporting and recognizing young athletes. I feel very lucky to have been a part of it, and always will be a part of it.”
McClure was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1999-2006, competing in more than 20 international competitions, and helped the United States to a team silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece – the squad’s best finish in 20 years. He also won a bronze medal at the 2001 Goodwill Games and two silver medals at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2001 and 2003, all on the pommel horse event.
The only gymnastics inductee in the Hall of Fame, McClure was inducted along with athletes such as Major League Baseball pitcher Dave Hamilton, who won three World Series rings with the Oakland A’s, and Milena Flores, who played women’s basketball at Stanford before joining the WNBA’s Miami Sol for two seasons. In total, ten individuals and two teams were inducted into the 2013 class.
“To be named in the same breath as the other inductees is absolutely amazing,” McClure said.
The Hall of Fame now includes 41 individuals and seven teams, featuring Snohomish County stars such as former San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks head coach Dennis Erickson, 1984 Olympic silver medalist figure skater Rosalynn Sumners and former University of Washington head coach Jim Lambright.
McClure is in his first season as Cal’s associate head coach following seven years as an assistant coach at Stanford and Air Force.
