NAPA, Calif. – Playing on center court in the round of 32 of the Napa Valley Challenger, California senior Ben McLachlan lost to Alex Kuznetsov – a professional player ranked 130th in the world – 6-1, 6-4, on Tuesday at the Napa Valley Country Club.

McLachlan, 21, who claimed wild-card entry into the Napa tournament, notched three aces in his match with Kuznetsov. The 26-year-old moves on to face Australian Matt Reid in the round of 16.

Cal’s No. 1 singles player and a product of Queenstown, New Zealand, McLachlan earned a No. 27 preseason singles ranking from the ITA earlier this month.

The Golden Bears next compete in the ITA Men’s All-American Championship that runs from Sept. 30-Oct. 6 in Tulsa, Okla., and in the Aggie Invitational from Oct. 4-6 at UC Davis.
