BERKELEY – Aaron Rodgers threw for a career-high and franchise-high-tying 480 yards and four touchdowns Sunday in a 38-20 win over Washington to highlight the performances by former Cal players in the NFL during the league’s second week that wrapped up when a Cincinnati team featuring Marvin Jones came up with a 20-10 victory over Pittsburgh. Rodgers completed 34-of-42 passes, while Jones contributed three catches for 35 yards.
Among the other Week 2 highlights from former Cal players were …
● Marshawn Lynch scored three touchdowns in Seattle’s 29-3 win over San Francisco as the Seahawks improved to 2-0 and have sole possession of first place in the NFC West. Lynch rushed 28 times for 98 yards and two scores, while adding three receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown.
● DeSean Jackson made nine receptions for 193 yards including a 61-yard touchdown although his Philadelphia squad was defeated 33-30 by a San Diego team that featured Keenan Allen, who made the first two catches of his career for 34 yards. Michael Kendricks also had eight tackles and a fumble recovery for the Eagles.
● Cameron Jordan came up with five tackles, 1.0 sacks and a forced fumble in New Orleans’ 16-14 victory over Tampa Bay as the Saints improved to 2-0 and moved into sole possession of first place in the NFC South.
● Solid contributions from Tony Gonzalez (four catches, 33 yards) and Thomas DeCoud (three tackles) in Atlanta’s 31-24 win over St. Louis.
