BERKELEY – Jared Goff has been named the Athlon Sports Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for his performance in a 52-34 loss to No. 4 Ohio State on Saturday. Goff continued an outstanding start to his career by completing 31-of-53 passes for 371 yards and a career-high three TDs against the Buckeyes as he became the first Cal player to throw for 300 or more yards since Aaron Rodgers threw for over 300 yards in each of the final three games of the 2003 campaign.
Goff has completed 103-of-168 passes for 1,306 yards with seven touchdowns over the first three games of the season and leads the NCAA in passing yards, passing yards per game (435.3) and total offense yards per game (429.7). He is the fastest Cal player to ever reach 1,000 yards passing in a single season, hitting the mark in the first quarter of the third game of the campaign against Ohio State.
*After beginning the season with a three-game homestand and then having a bye this week, Cal will next play in its Pac-12 opener at Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 28 (Pac-12 Networks) with the kickoff time for the contest expected to be announced Monday. Cal’s next home will be its Pac-12 home opener against Washington State on Alumni & Family Weekend (Oct. 5). The Golden Bears also have home Pac-12 game against Oregon State (Oct. 19), Arizona (Nov. 2) and USC (Nov. 9). In addition to the Oregon contest, Cal will play conference games on the road at UCLA (Oct. 12), Washington (Oct. 26), Colorado (Nov. 16) and Stanford (Nov. 23). All 2013 Cal football games will be televised with currently unannounced telecast information and kickoff times to be announced either 12 days or six days in advance of each game. All games can also be listened to on flagship radio station KGO 810 AM and the entire Cal IMG Sports Network.
