BERKELEY – California junior goalkeeper Courtney Hendrickson has been named the NorPac West Defensive Player of the Week after a strong opening weekend for the Bears.
Hendrickson recorded 11 saves and finished with a 1.24 goals against average in her two starts against Michigan State and No. 4 Connecticut, including 7 saves against the high-powered Huskies. In the opener against the Spartans, Hendrickson posted four saves in 100 minutes of action before guiding the Bears to a 3-2 shootout decision. Hendrickson staved off seven of MSU’s nine shootout strokes – including the last five in a row – to propel the Bears to victory. She backed that performance up with seven saves in 70 minutes against No. 4 UConn – the most saves a goalkeeper has collected against the Huskies in a regulation match since Northeastern had 13 on October 13, 2012.
The Bears return to action Friday with the home opener at Maxwell Family Field against Dartmouth. That match is scheduled to air live on the Pac-12 Networks at 4 p.m.
