The 2013 season opener begins at 7 p.m. between California and Michigan State at Stanford's Varsity Turf. Check back at this page regularly for updates.

6:50 p.m. - The Bears will be the home team tonight and are wearing their blue uniforms. Starting for Cal tonight are: GK (Hendrickson), D (Swartz, Goni, Gibbens), M (Marrazzo, Swensen, Lee, Elmitt), F (S. Earle, A. Earle, O'Reilly). 

6:51 p.m. - Three freshmen are in the starting lineup for the Bears in the season opener. We also see the return of Andrea Earle, but Lara Kruggel will miss tonight's game (ankle). 

6:53 p.m. - Captains meeting. The Cal captains are Courtney Hendrickson, Allie Swartz and Shannon Elmitt.

6:57 p.m. - Starting lineups are being announced and we are ready to start the season!

7:10 p.m. - No shots on goal for either team through the first 8 minutes of action. Possession nearly even. 

7:17 p.m. - Michigan State wins a penalty corner but the shot is wide afterwards. 

7:23 p.m. - Michigan State wins another penalty corner ... The Spartan shot is saved by Courtney Hendrickson. 

7:25 p.m. - Penalty Corner for Michigan State ... the Bears get rid of the threat.

7:27 p.m. - Cal wins a penalty corner ... Shannon Elmitt takes it but the Spartans are able to get it out.

7:28 p.m. - Cal wins another penalty corner ... Andrea Earle's shot off Shannon Elmitt's penalty corner is blocked.

7:32 p.m. - Six minutes remain in the first half and the Bears have controlled possession the last 10 minutes of action. 

7:36 p.m. - Michigan State scores. Spartans 1, Cal 0 (2:52 remaining in the first half). MSU's Abby Barker dribbled around the defender and fired a rocket. 

7:38 p.m. - The Bears nearly equalize when Sydney Earle's shot almost goes in but is slightly wide right. 

7:40 - HALFTIME! Michigan State leads 1-0 at the break with a goal in the 32nd minute by Abby Barker. Stats: Shots (MSU 5-2), Corners (MSU 3-2), Saves (Cal 2-0)

7:50 p.m. - The second half is underway and the sun that the Bears were attacking into the first half has now set. 
7:52 p.m. - Penalty corner for Michigan State ... The Bears block the attempt. 
7:55 p.m. - The Earle sisters nearly connect to even the scores. The Spartans still lead 1-0, but the Bears are fighting back.
7:58 p.m. - Jordan O'Reilly with a shot that is saved but leads to a penalty corner for the Bears ... the Bears get another shot attempt off the penalty corner that is saved and leads to a second ... the Spartans are able to get rid of the pressure on the second penalty corner. 
8:12 p.m. - Fifteen minutes remain in the match with the Spartans leading 1-0.
8:13 p.m. - The Bears win a penalty corner to be taken by Shannon Elmitt ... Allie Swartz's shot is saved. 
8:17 p.m. - Penalty corner for Cal with 10:38 remaining in the game ... Two shots by the Bears are saved by the MSU goalkeeper.
8:22 p.m. - GOAL BEARS!! Andrea Earle equalizes with 5:07 remaining in the game in a goal that the Bears have been building up to for a while now. The score is now tied 1-1.
8:26 p.m. - Two minutes remaining with the score tied 1-1. 
8:28 p.m. - End of regulation and the score is tied 1-1. Michigan State scored in the 32nd minute (Abby Barker), and Cal equalized in the 65th minute (Andrea Earle). 
8:33 p.m. - The start of overtime. Michigan State will begin with the ball. 
8:37 p.m. - Michigan State earns a penalty corner ... Shot goes wide of the goal. Bear ball. 
8:40 p.m. - The Spartans have a player get a yellow card, giving the Bears a nice advantage for the final minutes of this overtime period. 
8:42 p.m. - Sydney Earle with a breakaway from Clara Goni's pass, but help is able to get there in time to force a difficult shot that goes wide. (6:50 remaining in OT)
8:48 p.m. - End Of First OT. Score remains 1-1 as we head to the final 15 minutes of action here in Stanford against Michigan State.
8:51 p.m. - We're beginning the final OT in the season opener.
8:57 p.m. - The Bear fans in attendance give a loud ovation after Allie Swartz deters a potential Michigan State scoring threat.
8:59 p.m. - With 7:41 left in the final OT period, the Bears are hit with a yellow card to Allie Swartz.
9:01 p.m. - Penalty corner awarded to the Bears ... no shot on the attempt and Michigan State calls a timeout. 
9:07 p.m. - Michigan State with a high shot that Courtney Hendrickson parries away for the save. Two minutes remain. 
9:10 p.m. - We are all tied at 1-1 after two OT's. It's now time to decide a winner!
