Hey Cal fans! I am senior outside hitter Adrienne Gehan, and this season I will be writing a weekly blog giving fans the inside scoop on the Cal Volleyball Team. I will mainly be writing about our off-the-court activities for each week, providing a new perspective for all of you who only see us on the volleyball court. Hopefully you will all enjoy reading about our weekly shenanigans!
This past week marked the end of double-days and the beginning of our season. Each day during training camp we ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner as a team. It was really nice spending time with the team away from the court, and of course it was also great having amazing food waiting for us before and after each practice.
Another daily ritual we have as a team is movie time. During our time off in between morning and afternoon practices, we would all lay in the locker room and watch a movie as a team. We even made popcorn to go along with the feature! Some of the movies we have watched in the past week are Mean Girls, Bring It On, and Talladega Nights.
Although meals and movie time definitely made double-days more bearable, the highlight of the week was our team retreat at the Oakland Zoo, followed by a lunch at Fenton’s!
On Thursday, our team loaded up two large vans and headed off for the Oakland Zoo, where teammate Lindsey Parrott’s father is the president and CEO. Upon arrival, Dr. Parrott immediately greeted our large group of 23 at the gate. From there we split into three groups and were led to the tigers, giraffes, and otters for a special behind-the-scenes tour. Our time at the zoo was really incredible and I loved being able to spend some time with my teammates away from the gym. Big thanks to Dr. Parrott and the Oakland Zoo!
Hope you all enjoyed my first entry! I’ll post another next week. Go Bears!
