U.S. Moves Into Quarterfinals

The United States defeated New Zealand 12-5 on Wednesday to finish the preliminary round undefeated at the World Junior Championships in Volos, Greece.

Cal junior Tiera Schroeder plays for the U.S. team.

The Americans earned a trip directly to the quarterfinals Friday, when they will meet the winner of Thursday’s match between Ukraine and Hungary.

Hungary defeated Brazil 14-8 in another preliminary round game Wednesday. Incoming Cal freshmen Dora Antal and Anna Illes play for the Hungarians.

Spain, featuring Cal freshman Roser Tarrago, will take on New Zealand on Thursday with a berth in the quarterfinals on the line. The winner of that match will play Australia on Friday.
