Release:  08/18/2013

The Bears arrived in Beijing and had a nice dinner at Hai Di Lao to end a long but exciting first/second day of the international tour.

United flight 889 took off 40 minutes later than scheduled, but once in the air it was smooth sailing during the 12-hour flight with many team members alternating between sleeping, eating, watching movies on their iPads and watching the in-flight movies of Iron Man 3, The Croods and 42.

Once settled on the ground in Beijing, the Chin-Ease staff of Rani Cunningham and Alice Retson met the travel party and took us on an hour-long bus ride to our hotel, The Peninsula. Along the way, tour guide Eric Liu gave the team background information on China, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong - the cities scheduled for the 10-day tour.

Leaving San Francisco on a Satuday afternoon and landing in Beijing on a Sunday afternoon can take a lot out of you, so there was only one event organized after landing which was dinner at the popular hot pot destination of Hai Di Lao. Before heading to dinner, our guides took us through the night market where the adventurous snacked on snake (Mikayla Lyles and Avigiel Cohen), crawdaddy's and scorpion! Sampling Chinese cuisine was the perfect end to a first day in Beijing, and afterwards everyone has quickly retreated to their hotel rooms to catch up on sleep and prepare for a big Monday when we tour the Great Wall of China before playing our first game just 24 hours after arriving. The Bears take on Liaoning Monday at 4 p.m. which is 1 a.m. PT.

Until then,

Go Bears!
