The Bears are Beijing Bound!
Cal gathered at Haas Pavilion at 7:45 a.m. Saturday morning for a team breakfast before loading the bus for San Francisco International Airport. What will be a crazy travel day for the team started with an easy check-in at the United Airlines ticketing counter for a 12-hour flight from SFO to Beijing!
With a 12:40 p.m. scheduled departure on Saturday, the team will not step foot on solid ground again until 3:15 p.m. Sunday thanks to a 15-hour time difference between San Francisco and Beijing. And once the team lands, it will be a quick assimilation to Chinese culture with dinner at the Hai Di Lao Hot Pot in Wangfujing.
If the Hai Di Lao sounds vaguely familiar, it's because the chain has become so popular in China that it is beginning to make its first forays into the United States with the first location scheduled to open in Los Angeles this fall. (Read about what makes the chain so popular at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/22/hai-di-lao-hot-pot-noodle-dance_n_3320466.html)
After that, it's a quick turnaround with the first game scheduled for Monday at 4 p.m. against Liaoning, a team in the Chinese professional league.
Until we land in Beijing, Go Bears!
