BERKELEY – A trio of Golden Bears – Kahley Rowell, Anne Kastler and incoming freshman Hayden Tavoda – will compete at the AT&T National Diving Championships slated to start on Tuesday, Aug. 13, and end on Sunday, Aug. 18, at the University of Iowa Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
Rowell, a senior and two-time All-American on the platform, will vie for honors on the 10-meter platform at nationals. Preliminary heats and semifinals for the platform are scheduled for Wednesday, with the final on Saturday. Kastler, a sophomore, will compete on the three-meter springboard, with prelims and semis on Thursday and then the final on Sunday. Tavoda will pair with a teammate in the three-meter synchronized event, with prelims on Friday and the final on Saturday.
The Bears qualified for the national championships via the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone D Championships held from July 19-21 in Tucson, Ariz. Rowell placed fourth in the platform final at the regional competition with a score of 239.85 and then finished 10th (191.95) on the three-meter board, with Kastler placing seventh (203.25) at three meters.
Tavoda and her partner finished fourth in the three-meter synchronized dive with a score of 223.44 at regionals.
