BERKELEY - California men’s gymnasts Steven Lacombe and Donothan Bailey have qualified for the 2013 P&G Gymnastics Championships. The pair, along with Golden Bears Jeffrey Langenstein and Kyle Zemeir, recently competed at the 2013 Men’s National Qualifier at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

At the July 13-14 event, Lacombe, Bailey and 12 other senior division men qualified for the P&G Gymnastics Championships – formerly the Visa Championships – and will compete Aug. 15-18 in Hartford, Conn. in hopes of being selected to a spot on the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team. Qualification was based on a point system that awarded points for the top 20 scores in each event.

Lacombe performed strongly in all three of his events, finishing in the top 10 of each by claiming third on the rings and seventh place on floor and vault. Bailey, who was out of the Cal lineup for more than a year following wrist surgery, returned to competition with solid performances and finished with an 83.350 total through all six events, including an eighth-place pommel horse finish.

Though they did not qualify, Langenstein won the floor event outright and Zemeir competed with nearly all of his routines upgraded since the end of his collegiate season.

The 14 seniors who qualified for the P&G Championships, in rank order, are: Donnell Whittenburg, USOC/Baltimore, Md.; Joshua Dixon, USOC/San Jose, Calif.; Chris Turner, Stanford University/Fremont, Calif.; Steven Lacombe, University of California – Berkeley/Mission Viejo, Calif.; Sean Senters, Stanford/Center Valley, Pa.; Luke Stannard, University of Illinois/Waukegan, Ill.; Kanji Oyama, University of Oklahoma/Huntington Beach, Calif.; Matthew McGrath, University of Iowa/Wheaton, Ill.; Donothan Bailey, University of California – Berkeley/Lake Forest, Calif.; Mark Ringle, University of Nebraska-Lincoln/San Ramon, Calif.; Kevin Baker, Stanford Boys Gymnastics/Union, Ky.; Robert Courter, William and Mary/Baton Rouge, La.; Matthew Loochtan, University of Iowa/Hawthorn Woods, Ill.; and Daniel Steiner, Ohio State University/Mesa, Ariz.
