BERKELEY – California rising sophomore Hannah Suh outdueled Ashlan Ramsey in the final round to win the Trans National Amateur Friday at Schaffer’s Mill Golf and Lake Club in Truckee, Calif., with a one-under 287 (72-70-72-73).
Suh and Ramsey had were tied at two-under par (214) entering the final round of the 72-hole tournament. Suh then used her best nine-hole performance of the week with a 33 over the front nine to gain the separation she needed to win the tournament over Ramsey by one stroke with a final round 73.
It was a strong mental comeback for Suh after trailing Ramsey by five strokes through the first 36 holes. The San Jose native, who two weeks ago competed at the U.S. Women’s Open, was the only golfer at the tournament to only shoot one of the four rounds over par (72) with every other competitor carding at least two rounds of 73 or higher.
Classmate Carly Childs of Alameda, Calif., tied for 33rd overall with a 73-79-81-83=316, and rising junior Morgan Thompson tied for 44th with a 77-83-83-79=322.
