Senior Ashley Young scored three goals as the Cal women’s water polo team played Australia to a 6-6 tie Wednesday in a Preliminary Round Group B matchup at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.

The Bears are playing as Team USA at the event, as they were chosen by USA Water Polo to represent the country for the games.

Young’s third goal with 1:13 remaining completed a comeback from a 3-1 deficit and gave Cal a 6-5 lead. But Australia’s Elle Armit scored the equalizer with 52 seconds left to force the tie.

Junior Victoria Williams added two goals for the Bears, and sophomore Sierra Smiley also scored for Cal.

Sophomore Kathleen Menz and freshman Kelsey Roland split time at goalie, with Menz recording six saves and Roland coming up with three.

The Bears outshot Australia, 28-25.
