Three members of the Cal men’s swimming & diving team will be representing their countries in World University Games competition that gets underway Wednesday in Kazan, Russia. Adam Hinshaw and Jacob Pebley will swim for Team USA, while Martin Liivamagi will contend for his native Estonia.
ESPN3.com will broadcast swimming footage starting at 8 a.m. PT daily from July 10-16.
Hinshaw recently completed his sophomore season for the Bears and qualified for the WUG in the 200 and 400 individual medley, and Pebley, a freshman last year, is slated to compete in three backstroke distances – 50, 100 and 200 meters. Liivamagi, an Olympian who set school records in the 200 and 400 IM at Cal before finishing his eligibility in 2012, will have a busy meet as he is expected to race in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke, the 400 free relay and the 400 medley relay.
A complete schedule of events can be found on the World University Games website at kazan2013.ru.
All three swimmers have been part of historic seasons for the Bears, who captured consecutive NCAA team championships in 2011 and 2012 then won the Pac-12 title this past spring.
