SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (Sebonack Golf Club)California alum Emily Childs shot a 77 (+5) and rising sophomore Hannah Suh carded an 80 (+8) after the first 18 holes of the 68th U.S. Women’s Open Thursday afternoon at the Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.

Childs, an automatic qualifier into her first LPGA Tour major after winning the Northern California Golfing Association Sectional last month, hit 13 pars and five bogeys in the first 18 holes of her first U.S. Women’s Open appearance. Childs sat four-over through her first 10 holes before fully settling down over her final eight – holes 2 thru 9 – to finish with a 77.

Suh, who was the first alternate at the Sectional that Childs qualified at, started four-over through eight holes before a birdie on the 18th set the scene for a strong finish. Suh, who was added to the field Tuesday in place of Ariya Jutanugarn, is also playing in her first LPGA major.

CalBears.com will have updates throughout the tournament for Suh and Childs.
