INDIANAPOLIS – Missy Franklin added to her medal haul with wins in the 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter backstroke at the U.S. National Championships and World Championship Trials on Wednesday at the Indiana University Natatorium on the Campus of IUPUI. The incoming Golden Bear finished 1-2 in the 200 backstroke with soon-to-be California teammate Elizabeth Pelton, with Franklin clocking a meet- and U.S. Open-record time of 2:05.68, which is also the fastest time in the world this year.

Pelton – the American-record holder and 2013 NCAA champ in the 200-yard back – posted the second fastest time in the world this year to take second place with a mark of 2:06.29 in the 200-meter back. Also in the 200 back, Melanie Klaren – a Cal junior in 2013-14 – clipped one second off of her prelim time to win the consolation final and take ninth overall in a time of 2:11.94.

With her second-place finish, Pelton has likely earned a berth to the World Championships that will run from July 28-Aug. 4 in Barcelona, while Franklin has now clinched spots in three events in Spain. USA Swimming will announce its World Championship squad at some point after the Indianapolis meet ends.

Golden Bear alumna Caitlin Leverenz – the 2012 NCAA champ in the 200-yard breaststroke – finished seventh in the A final of the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:29.32.

In the 50-meter butterfly A final, Cindy Tran – the Bears’ two-time NCAA champ in the 100-yard backstroke – placed seventh with a time of 27.08. Rachel Bootsma – a Cal All-American in the 100-yard fly – won the B final of the 50-meter fly to take ninth place with a time of 26.90.
