INDIANAPOLIS – Missy Franklin claimed a spot in Barcelona when the incoming Golden Bear won the 100-meter freestyle final at the U.S. National Championships and World Championship Trials on Tuesday at the Indiana University Natatorium on the Campus of IUPUI. The U.S. Olympic star posted a meet-record time of 53.43 that is also the second-fastest time in the world.
New California alumna Caitlin Leverenz posted a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly final in a time of 2:11.16.
Also in the 100 free, Cal alum Natalie Coughlin finished fifth, current Bear Elizabeth Pelton placed sixth and current Bear Rachael Acker was 13th. Coughlin, who led the field after 50 meters, clocked a time of 54.04, Pelton recorded a time of 54.65 and Acker posted a time of 55.41.
In the 200 fly B final, Celina Li, another incoming freshman, took 10th place with a time of 2:11.73.
