Arioto, Ziegenhirt Selected to National Team Roster

California softball alum Valerie Arioto (2008-12) and Lindsey Ziegenhirt (2010-13) have been selected to USA Softball's Women's National Team, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and USA Softball announced Friday. The 18-person roster is set for three separate competitions beginning July 11.

Friday's selection came following three days of drills and scrimmages at selection camp in Oklahoma City. Arioto, a standout utility player for the Golden Bears, joins the roster for the third year in a row. Cal catcher Ziegenhirt, who ranks fourth in program history for home runs (42), received her first selection following two years of tryouts.

The duo will open competition for the Red, White and Blue at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City from July 11-14 before traveling to Surrey, B.C. Canada for the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship July 16-22. Team USA finishes competition at the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women's World Championship/Pan American Games qualifier in San Juan, Puerto Rico Aug. 5-18.

Cal is one of six softball programs with two or more players on the Team USA roster. The team will be coached by Ken Eriksen (USF), Laura Berg (Oregon State), Suzy Brazney (Golden West College), Howard Dobson (LSU), Karen Weekly (Tennessee) and Mike White (Oregon).
