BERKELEY - California men's tennis junior Campbell Johnson and senior Christoffer Konigsfeldt claimed the Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year award and Johnson earned the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year honor, the conference announced on Tuesday. The tandem earned the Pac-12's automatic berth in the NCAA doubles tournament that will occur after the NCAA team championship.
Johnson was unanimously voted as the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year as he posted a 26-12 record prior to NCAAs in dual-match singles play this season. Currently ranked 60th in singles, Johnson has played mainly in the No. 3 spot for California, though he has a 3-0 record at No. 2 singles. In the NCAA team championships Johnson has posted two victories, including the first-round clincher for Cal over No. 33 Florida State. Johnson was also selected to play in the NCAA singles competition later this month.
