Palmer Cup Coverage

WILMINGTON, Del. - Team USA leads 11.5-3.5 lead after the conclusion of action Saturday at the 2013 Palmer Cup at the Wilmington Country Club. Cal golfers Michael Kim, Joël Stalter and Michael Weaver are playing at the event that concludes Sunday. Kim and Weaver are playing for Team USA, while Stalter is a member of Team Europe.

Kim (Team USA) and Stalter (Team Europe) halved their respective singles matches Saturday with Europe's Pedro Figueiredo and Team USA's James Erkenbeck, while Weaver fell to Europe's Kevin Phelan, 3 & 1. Kim highlighted his match by holing out from 80 yards on the 16th hole.

In four-ball matches that were originally scheduled for Friday but postponed to Saturday due to inclement weather, Kim and Weaver played together and halved a match with Europe's Gary Hurley and Phelan. Stalter and fellow France native Julien Brun were defeated by the American duo of Alex Carpenter and Cory Whitsett.

The 2013 Palmer Cup will conclude Sunday with five matches of foursomes play and the final 10 singles matches. The foursomes matches tee off at 7 a.m. ET/4 a.m. PT. Kim and Stalter will play against each other in one of the foursome matches. Pairings have yet to be determined for the final 10 singles matches.

The United States leads the all-time Palmer Cup series 8-7-1.

Each of Cal's three Palmer Cup representatives played on Cal's 2012-13 team that ranked as the nation's No. 1 team in both the final Golfstat and Golfweek rankings released after the NCAA Championship despite a loss to Illinois in the match-play semifinals of the NCAA's. Cal won 12 of 14 stroke-play events during the campaign to set a modern-day NCAA record, including the 54-hole stroke-play portion of the NCAA Championship to enter match play as the top-seed, as well as the NCAA Pullman Regional and Pac-12 Championship team titles.

Peter Tomasulo is the only Cal golfer to have previously played in the Palmer Cup when he was a member of Team USA in 2003, while associate head coach Walter Chun was an assistant coach for Team USA in 2009.
