BERKELEY - California women's water polo coach Richard Corso has selected the 13 players that will represent the United States at the World University Games this July in Kazan, Russia.

The Bears were selected by Team USA to represent the U.S. at the international tournament July 6-17, which will feature eight teams in women's water polo.

Cal is only allowed to bring 13 of its current players to compete in the World University Games. Corso selected nine returning players and four incoming freshmen to make the trip abroad:

• D Ashley Young, Sr.
• G Savanna Smith, Jr.
• D Tiera Schroeder, Jr.
• D Victoria Williams, Jr.
• D Chris Baker, Jr.
• S Sierra Smiley, So.
• D Meagan Smith, So.
• S Brooke Vowell, So.
• 2M Missy Hale, So.
• 2M Emily Loughlin, Fr.
• G Kelsey Roland, Fr.
• 2M Brigitta Games, Fr.
• D Stephanie Mutafyan, Fr.

The Bears will play their first game on July 6 against Hungary. Two other current Cal players, Kelly McKee and Michelle Caron, will play in the competition for Team Canada.

This is the first year USA Water Polo is sending a singular college team rather than a squad made up of players from varying institutions.

Corso and Associate Head Coach Matt Flesher will accompany the team, as well as Associate Vice Chancellor Erin Gore.
