STOCKTON, CALIF. - Cal baseball scored in every inning except the top of the ninth, pounding out 17 hits on the way to a 13-2 win at Pacific Tuesdays night (April 30) at Klein Family Field in Stockton. The Golden Bears (21-23) got home runs from Chris Paul, Andrew Knapp and Nick Halamandaris - while freshman center fielder Devin Pearson went 4-for-5 with two RBI.
The winning pitcher for Cal was junior left-hander Kyle Porter (1-0), who entered the game in the fourth inning and threw 4.0 innings with four hits, no runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Freshman right-hander Collin Monsour struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.
Pearson started the Bears' scoring with an RBI single in the first inning. Pacific responded with a run in the bottom of the first inning off of Cal freshman left-hander Jake Schulz, but from that point it was all Bears. Freshman first baseman Halamandaris hit a solo home run in the second inning, Cal had three runs in the third inning, sophomore shortstop Paul had a three-run homer in the Bears' four-run seventh inning and junior catcher Knapp had a solo home run in the eighth inning.
Knapp finished the evening 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and two RBI. Halamandaris recorded three hits as well, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.
The Bears next return to Pac-12 play with a three-game series at No. 6-ranked Oregon State (34-8), May 3-5 at Goss Stadium in Corvallis. Game times are 5:35 p.m. on Friday, 2:05 p.m. on Saturday (shown on Pac-12 Networks) and 12:05 p.m. on Sunday.
