Stanford, USC Advance To MPSF Title Match

BERKELEY - Top-seeded Stanford and No. 2 USC advanced to the championship game of the MPSF Championships with wins Saturday at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

The Cardinal (27-1) defeated No. 4 UCLA (25-6) 11-7 in one semifinal match. Junior Annika Dries scored five goals for Stanford while senior Melissa Seidemann added four. Sophomore Danielle Ferraro had two goals for UCLA.

In Saturday's other semifinal, USC ousted Arizona State, 11-5. The Trojans (23-1) scored the first six goals of the match to take command early. Sophomore Monica Vavic had two goals to pace USC while freshman Katie Sverchek had two for the Sun Devils (26-6).

In the first game Saturday, sixth-seeded San Jose State beat No. 7 CSU Bakersfield 14-7. Sophomore Timi Molnar led the Spartans (12-11) with three goals. The Roadrunners (12-24) had seven different goal-scorers.

Sunday's action begins at 11 a.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex with the Fifth Place Game featuring Cal (16-7) against San Jose St. The Third Place Game between UCLA and Arizona St. will take place at 12:45 with the championship game between USC and Stanford set for 2:30 p.m.
