Cal's Hawaii Training Trip Blog: Day 9 With Lauren Boyle
One last morning in Hawaii before the Bears fly back to California
Jan. 15, 2010
HONOLULU - Senior Lauren Boyle reflects on the trip on the last day of the California Golden Bears' trip to Hawaii.
Final day - Jan. 14
Waking up this morning felt different to the other mornings in Hawaii. We had only a few hours left on Oahu. With conflicting feelings of excitement, about returning to Berkeley, mixed with sadness of leaving our training paradise, we headed to Waikiki beach for our final Hawaiian workout.
Today's beach workout was challenging. Our dryland piece included demanding sequences with cartwheels and partner pushups; the ocean swimming wasn't easier. We swam relays up the beach and practiced longer pieces in the calmer areas of water.
After the workout we spent a few seconds bobbing in the water reflecting on our experience we had in Hawaii, the valuable things we learned and how much we gained from the training camp. We all agreed that while we had a lot of fun together, we had gathered lots of new tools we will be able to work into our swimming training and competition.
After the beach we got breakfast and returned to our apartments to pack up and prepare to leave. At 11 a.m. we packed up our caravan of vans and left the Aston Sunset. At the airport we bid Hawaii an "aloha" and "mahalo" for the fantastic trip and boarded our flight back to the Bay.
