Trojans Rally To Defeat Golden Bears 66-63

BERKELEY, Calif. - The USC Trojans scored the last seven points of the game to rally for a 66-63 come-from-behind win over the host California Golden Bears in Harmon Gym Saturday. USC improved to 15-5 overall, 9-2 in the Pac-10, while Cal fell to 6-14, 2-9, suffering its sixth-straight loss.

The Bears came all the way back tom a 17-point, first-half deficit to lead by four points, 63-59, with 1:50 left in the game. USC guard Kristin Clark made a 3-pointer with 1:24 left to close the gap to 63-62. After a steal by USC's Michelle Campbell, senior Tina Thompson made a layup with 43.5 seconds remaining to give USC a 64-63 advantage. Adrian Willimas added a pair of free throws with 21.8 seconds left to give USC a 66-63 lead, and a final 3-point attempt by Cal's Sherrise Smith fell short and Cal could not put back in the rebound.

USC led by 13 points, 42-29, early in the second half, when Cal went on a 12-1 run to put the Golden Bears back in the game, trailing just 43-41 with 14:07 left in the game. USC moved back out to a nine-point lead, 54-45, and Cal put together nine-unanswered points to tie the game 54-54 with 6:27 left. Cal took its first lead of the second half, 58-57, on a pair of free throws by senior forward Patrycja Czepiec. USC answered with a basket by Thompson with 3:08 left. Czepiec maed a 3-pointer and Jennie Leander added a hook shot with 1:50 left to give Cal the lead, 63-59.

Czepiec and Leander tied for game-high honors with 20 points each, and Leander had her fifth double-double of the year with 20 points, 10 rebounds. Thompson and Michelle Campbell had 17 points each for USC, and Williams came off the bench to add 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Cal is on the road next weekend, playing at Oregon Thursday, Feb. 13 and Oregon State Saturday, Feb. 15.
