California Run Puts Game Out of Reach

Berkeley, CA -- The California Golden Bears tipped off the Marianne Stanley era with a 58-49 exhibition victory over the Amager Club of Denmark Thursday at Harmon Gym.

"I'm really happy with the win," said Stanley, "It's nice to have one under jour belts, we needed the confidence."

Senior Patrycja Czepiec led the Bears in scoring with 17 points, 15 of which came in the second half. An outstanding performance was turned in by freshman Paige Bowie, who scored 16 points, and set the stage for a clutch run late in the first half. Pamela Pember led Amager with 19 points and 8 rebounds.

With the score tied 19-19 and 7:02 left to play in the first half California took control with a 14-0 run to put the Bears on top 33-19. During that span, Amager missed 15 consecutive shots from the field, and shot just 14% (5/35) in the first half.

The Bears next game is an exhibition against the Slovakian National team on Friday November 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Harmon Gym. Cal opens the regular season November 23-24 at the Dial Classic at Old Dominion University.
