Cal Loses Close One to UCLA

LOS ANGELES - Led by Maylana Martin's 30 points, the UCLA Bruins defeated the California Golden Bears, 74-65, in women's basketball. Martin was 10-of-15 from the floor and sunk 10-of-14 from the line for the Bruins in the Pac-10 showdown.

With the win, UCLA improved to 8-5, 2-2 in Pac-10 play, while the Golden Bears fell to 5-8, 1-3 in the conference. Cal trailed by seven at the half, and could not overcome the deficit.

Guard Paige Bowie came off the bench to lead Cal with 22 points and forward Patrycja Czepiec chipped in with 17 of her own.

In addition to her big shooting night, Martin had 10 rebounds while UCLA's Janae Hubbard grabbed eight in the Bruins' win.

The Golden Bears' next game is Thursday at home vs. Oregon State.
