Earned a third-place finish at the 1968 Olympic Trials and went on to become captain of the '68 Olympic Team that competed in Mexico City...also was runner-up in the floor exercises for the U.S. at the 1967 World University Games in Tokyo...at the conclusion of his career as an athlete, Freudenstein earned a Ph.D. in physics at the University of Colorado, where he also served as head gymnastics coach for several years...served as chairman of the physics department at Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colo.
