Ron Coccimiglio is in his second season as the director of career development/assistant director of football operations at Cal in 2012. Coccimiglio duties include promoting the development of student-athletes in order to successfully transition them into the professional work place. He oversees life skills coaching and the summer and career job placement programs.
Coccimiglio graduated from Cal with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1981 after playing football for the Golden Bears from 1976-80. He still ranks tied for sixth on the school's all-time list with 11 career interceptions that he returned 227 yards that is third all-time in interception return yardage. He led the Golden Bears in interceptions in each of his final two seasons, picking off three in 1979 and four in 1980 when he served as a co-captain.
Coccimiglio worked as a vice president for two print firms and a partner in a print brokerage firm during a professional career in the print industry that spanned more than 20 years before returning to his alma mater to serve for three seasons as a defensive assistant from 2003-05. He came back for a second stint on the staff from 2007-09 as the assistant director of football operations before stepping into his current position.
Coccimiglio and his wife, Judi, also a Cal graduate, have been married for more than 30 years. The couple has a son, Nicholas (wife, Shannon), and three daughters, Jillian (husband, Matt), Jennifer and Janelle. Along with his wife and daughter Jillian, Coccimiglio is the owner of several Yogurt Shacks in the Bay Area.
