Matt Beck spent three seasons on the team's coaching staff from 2007-09, inclduing the final two as Cal's offensive graduate assistant. Beck was a four-year letterwinner and two-time captain for the Golden Bears (1996-99), tallying 239 career tackles (11th all-time at Cal) and 48 tackles for loss (sixth at Cal). A three-time All-Pac-10 selection, he entered his senior season as one of the top-rated linebackers in the nation, but had his year cut short by a broken foot after two games.

The Grass Valley, Calif., product spent the last two seasons as the defensive ends coach at City College of San Francisco, helping the program to a pair of Northern California Championships.

Beck spent the 2000 season on the injured reserve with the St. Louis Rams. He joined the coaching ranks in 2003 with the nationally-recognized De La Salle High School program, helping the team to the 2003 national championship.
