Should compete for starting tight end job this fall ... brought sterling reputation as an outstanding receiving tight end from Orange Coast College last year, but was limited in his abilities due to nagging foot injury that required off-season surgery ... returned in time for spring practice in March ... 2002 ... played in all 12 games in his debut Cal season despite the foot injury ... started four games (New Mexico St., Air Force, UCLA and Oregon State) when the Bears opened in a two-tight end set ... ranked sixth on team in receptions with eight catches for 79 yards ... best output came against Arizona, when he corralled three passes for 21 yards ... longest reception of the season was a 20-yarder at Washington.
