Dr. Sameer Dixit assumed the interim head team physician duties for Cal's 27 athletic teams in January 2008 after working as an associate team physician with the Golden Bears for the previous two years. Prior to coming to Cal, Dixit was a team physician at UCLA, where he completed a two-year fellowship in primary care sports medicine and also served as a clinical instructor at the medical center.
Dixit has published several articles in peer reviewed medical journals and has also been a frequent presenter at national medical conferences. He has also performed extensive research in hypertension in the collegiate athletic population.
A member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Dixit is active in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows via programs at UC Davis and UC San Francisco medical centers.
Dixit earned his bachelor's degree in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and then received his medical degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. After completing his residency in internal medicine from the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill., Dixit accepted the sports medicine fellowship at UCLA.
A native of Baltimore, Md., where he was born and raised, Dixit is single and currently resides in San Francisco.
