Inducted into the College Tennis Hall of Fame in 1995...was a finalist in 1943 NCAA singles tourney losing to Miami's Francisco Segura...also doubles finalists with Harry Buttimer losing to Texas' John Hickman and Walter Driver...finalist in Wimbledon singles (lost to Jack Kramer) in 1947...Wimbledon doubles champion with Kramer in 1946...finalist in U.S. singles (lost to Kramer) in 1946...a San Francisco native nicknamed "The `Frisco Flailer"...won U.S. hardcourt singles in 1957-58 and doubles in 1950-52-53...U.S. Davis Cup team in 1946-50-53, scored only U.S. point in 1950 Challenge Round against Australia at Forest Hill, over Ken McGregor...ranked in U.S. Top 10 eight times, 1946 through '58...ranked No. 1 in U.S. 70 singles.
