AS A JUNIOR (2005): Earned honorable mention All-America accolades and was second-team All-MPSF...scored 19 goals on the year, including a team-high six goals during the MPSF Tournament, scoring twice each against UCLA, USC and UC Irvine...

AS A SOPHOMORE (2004): Was selected as an honorable mention All-American, scoring 14 goals, including a goal in the Bears' Big Splash victory over Stanford...notched a goal with four seconds left in regulation in an overtime victory at Long Beach State...

AS A FRESHMAN (2003): Scored five goals as a true freshman, including goals against Long Beach State and UCLA in the MPSF Tournament...also recorded a goal against national champion USC in the Bears' overtime victory versus the Trojans in the semifinals of the Stanford Invitational...was teammates with fellow Cal senior John Mann and junior Michael Sharf on the United States' gold medal-winning team at the 2004 Junior Pan American Games in San Salvador, El Salvador...

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: At Harvard-Westlake High School was one of only four high school athletes (along with Cal teammate John Mann) to be named to the 2002-03 USA Junior National (under 20) Team...was the 2002 CIF Southern Section Division I Player of the Year and a two-time, first-team High School All-American, leading his team to CIF Division I runner-up finish in 2002...competed three years on the varsity basketball team, helping his team to the CIF Division IV championship in 2002...was a first-team All-American at the 2005 20-Under National Championship, leading the Lamorinda water polo club to a gold medal in Davis, Calif....was also a member of the Lamorinda team that won a bronze medal at the Men's Senior Nationals in Davis...has been a member of the United States Senior National Team as well...was a member of the USA Junior National Team, along with Mann and former Cal goalie Nate Bennett, that traveled to the Junior World Championships in Naples, Italy in the summer of 2003...scored four goals for Team USA at the Junior World Championships...majoring in interdisciplinary studies...father, Dan, played water polo at Long Beach State...mother, Nina, was a standout volleyball player at UCLA, leading the Bruins to AIAW national titles in 1974 and 1975...mother also went on to be an outstanding professional beach volleyball player and is the head women's volleyball coach at, Morgan, played water polo at Pepperdine from 2000-03...parents are Dan and Nina Matthies...born March 10, 1985, in Los Angeles, Calif.
